Stillness Like I Remember It

Stillness Like I Remember It
I saw this meme the other day that hit me right in the soul:

“I love calmness in my life. I love not having to rush in the morning and being able to take my time. I love those moments of silence and peace where there's just stillness and me. I love having time for intentional slowness and gratitude. I love when my nervous system is at ease.”

I read it once… then read it again. And I just sat with it for a minute...

It’s Not a Conspiracy. It’s Just History... How Natural Healing Was Pushed Aside

It’s Not a Conspiracy. It’s Just History... How Natural Healing Was Pushed Aside
Let’s be real: I didn’t always read ingredient labels. I didn’t think twice about popping an over-the-counter pill when something hurt. I didn’t really think much at all about a time when healing looked different.

But now? I’m asking a lot more questions. And I’m slowly finding my way back to something that feels... simpler. A little slower. A lot more intentional.

If you’ve read my post on how petrochemicals changed medicine, you know that the way we do healthcare today didn’t just happen. It was steered, hard, by some very powerful (and very rich) men with profit in mind.

And ever since I learned about that shift, I haven’t been able to unsee it...

How Family History Keeps Me Grounded (Especially During Life’s Hardest Moments)

How Family History Keeps Me Grounded (Especially During Life’s Hardest Moments)
It hit me recently that I’ve never really stopped living in the past—and I mean that in the a good kind of way.

I’ve always been the one in the family who asks about the great-grandparents no one remembers. The one who pulls over for historical markers, gets lost in old newspaper clippings, and secretly prefers a vintage map over GPS. Some people collect souvenirs when they travel—I like to collect stories...

The Body Keeps Score: How Stress, Grief, and Everyday Habits Show Up in Our Health

The Body Keeps Score: How Stress, Grief, and Everyday Habits Show Up in Our Health
We often think of our bodies as separate from our emotions—until they remind us they’re not. Whether it’s stress, grief, or years of go-go-go living, our bodies quietly keep track of everything we don’t deal with. This mind-body connection can show up in subtle but powerful ways. Here’s what I’ve been learning about that unspoken tally...

Old Map, New Road: Making Peace with a Future That Looks Different

Old Map, New Road: Making Peace with a Future That Looks Different
I’ve always been someone who liked having a plan. Not a rigid, every-minute-mapped-out kind of plan—but a general sense of what was ahead, where we were headed, and what we were building toward. Especially in recent years, Eric and I had started dreaming about what life could look like once the busy years slowed down a bit.
We thought we had time...

✨ My blog exists because I know what it feels like to keep everything jumbled in your head — like a messy pile of clothes you can’t sort through.

Writing it all down brings clarity, calm, and sometimes even healing answers I didn’t know I was looking for.

Honestly, that’s why I keep showing up to write — it helps me make sense of things.

Even if you have no intentions of ever publishing your work, I highly recommend writing stuff down. It doesn't have to be a literary masterpiece or even full, grammatically correct sentences... just dump those random thoughts onto paper... you'll see what I mean.

Hi! I'm AJ Flanagan.

Hey there — I'm AJ.
I'm endlessly curious about what helps people live healthier, happier, more intentional lives.

Over the years I've explored everything from cleaner living and better nutrition to habits, personal growth, stress, ADHD, grief, and the everyday choices that shape how we feel. I'm not interested in chasing perfection or the latest trends. I'm interested in finding what actually works in real life.

That curiosity became deeply personal as my husband, Eric, and I walked through two cancer diagnoses together. Supporting him through treatment changed the way we thought about our home, our health, and how we wanted to spend the time we had. We learned that small, consistent changes often matter far more than dramatic overhauls.

After Eric's passing, that search didn't end. If anything, it grew. These days I'm still asking questions, trying new things, connecting dots, and sharing what I'm learning along the way. Sometimes that's about healthier living. Sometimes it's about navigating ADHD, building better habits, simplifying life, or making sense of difficult seasons. Sometimes it's simply about noticing something that makes life a little richer.

My hope is that this space feels less like a classroom and more like a conversation over coffee. A place where curiosity replaces pressure, progress matters more than perfection, and together we discover what actually works.

If that sounds like what you're looking for, I'm glad you're here.
