Fun and Creative DIY Projects with Essential Oils for Kids

As a parent, finding ways to keep your kids engaged and entertained while spending extended periods of time indoors can be a challenge. However, with these fun and creative DIY projects using Young Living essential oils, you and your children can bond while learning about the benefits of essential oils and how to use them safely. In this blog, we'll share some easy-to-follow instructions for making homemade playdough, scented slime, citrus spray, and relaxing bath salts.

DIY Projects with Essential Oils for Kids:
1. Homemade Playdough - Making playdough is always a hit with kids! Follow these steps to make your own playdough at home:

Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tbsp coconut or olive oil
- 1 cup salt
- 2 cups warm water
- 4 tsp cream of tartar
- Young Living essential oil (such as Lavender, Peppermint, or Lemon)
- Dried lavender flowers (optional)

Instructions:
1. Combine all ingredients, except for the essential oil and dried lavender flowers, in a pot over medium heat.
2. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes thick and hard to stir.
3. Remove from heat and knead the dough until it becomes smooth.
4. Add a few drops of your favorite Young Living essential oil to the dough and knead again.
5. Optional: add dried lavender flowers to add another texture/sensory aspect.
6. Let your kids play and get creative with their new homemade playdough! Store your homemade play dough in a glass container with a lid. 

2. Scented Slime - Kids love slime, and adding essential oils can make it even more fun! Follow these steps to make your own scented slime at home:

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup clear glue
- 1/2 cup water
- Young Living essential oil (such as Stress Away or Valor)
- Liquid starch
- Confetti, glitter, and natural food coloring (optional)

Instructions:
1. Mix the clear glue, water, and a few drops of your favorite Young Living essential oil in a bowl until well combined.
2. Slowly add in liquid starch until the mixture starts to form a slime-like consistency. You'll use somewhere between 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup of liquid starch.
3. Optional: add confetti, glitter, and natural food coloring to make fun add-ins.
4. Let your kids have fun playing with their scented slime! Store the slime in a glass jar with a lid.  
3. Citrus Spray - Help your kids create a DIY room spray by following these simple steps:

Ingredients:
- Glass or stainless steel spray bottle
- Water
- Citrus Fresh essential oil
- Pinch of sea salt

Instructions:
1. Fill your spray bottle with water.
2. Add a few drops of Citrus Fresh essential oil and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
3. Shake well to combine.
4. Spray the room to freshen it up and create a positive atmosphere.

4. Relaxing Bath Salts - Help your kids wind down for the day with a relaxing bath using homemade bath salts:

Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups Epsom salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- Young Living Lavender essential oil

Instructions:
1. Mix Epsom salt, baking soda, and a few drops of Lavender essential oil in a glass jar until well combined.
2. Add 1/4C of the mixture to warm bath water for a relaxing and soothing soak. Store remaining bath salt in a glass jar with a lid.
