6 Foods to Incorporate into Your Diet for Better Digestion
Improving Digestion through Food

Proper digestion is essential for overall wellness and vitality. Incorporating the right foods into your diet can significantly improve your digestive health. In this blog post, we will explore six wholesome foods that support digestion, along with a special mention of away to incorporate greens for their role in promoting a healthy gut.

Ginger, Ginger Vitality, essential oil

1. Ginger: Reduce Bloating and Indigestion

Known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, ginger is widely recognized for its ability to soothe the digestive system. Whether consumed as a tea, added to meals, or taken as a supplement, ginger aids in reducing bloating, relieving indigestion, and promoting bowel regularity.

Because it can be difficult to keep fresh ginger on hand, I like to incorporate ginger essential oil into my diet. Young Living offers a line of ingestible "Vitality" essential oils. They are the only ones I use internally because I know I can trust that they're pure with no added fillers, fragrances, or other synthetic chemical ingredients. Along with the single Ginger Vitality, they have several blends that include ginger. DiGize Vitality is one that I use most often, especially when I can feel that my digestive system isn't working quite right.

Papaya, digestive enzymes, papain

2. Papaya: Aid in Protein Digestion

Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which aids in breaking down proteins and supports optimal digestion. This tropical fruit is known for its ability to reduce heartburn and bloating, making it an excellent choice for those with digestive issues.

fermented foods, kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurt, NingXia Greens

3. Fermented Foods: Promote a Healthy Gut

Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt, and kimchi are packed with probiotics. These beneficial bacteria support a healthy gut by promoting the growth of good bacteria, improving nutrient absorption, and enhancing bowel movements.

Peppermint, Peppermint Vitality, essential oil

4. Peppermint: Soothe Digestive Discomfort

Peppermint has long been used as a natural remedy for digestive discomfort. Its soothing properties help relax the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, reducing symptoms like bloating, gas, and stomach cramps. Enjoy a cup of peppermint tea or incorporate it into your meals for digestive relief.

This is another time that keeping essential oils on hand is helpful because fresh peppermint isn't always available. One drop (or even just a toothpick swirl) of Peppermint Vitality essential oil added to my tea or hot mushroom powder and cacao drink tastes delicious and helps to give me the relief I'm looking for.

Whole grains, organic, non-GMO

5. Whole Grains: Maintain Regular Bowel Movements

High in dietary fiber, whole grains like oats, quinoa, and brown rice aid in maintaining regular bowel movements and preventing constipation. Additionally, their fiber content promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, supporting overall digestive health. A best practice is to look for organic, non-GMO sources for your grains.

Pineapple, bromelain, digestive enzymes

6. Pineapple: Break Down Proteins for Better Digestion

Similar to papaya, pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps break down proteins and aids in digestion. This tropical fruit can be enjoyed on its own, added to smoothies, or used as a natural tenderizer for meats.
